Dr. LOEWENSTEIN, MD, is a prominent pioneer within the field of trauma and dissociation in recent times. Among his significant contributions is his leadership of the first inpatient treatment program, Sheppard Pratt, for patients with complex dissociative disorders (from 1987-2020).
LOEWENSTEIN is described as an outstanding clinician as well as presenter. He has helped thousands of severely distressed patients with complex dissociative disorders, as well as educated hundreds of clinicians. LOEWENSTEIN is a highly ranked international author with
innumerable papers and book-chapters.
His motivation is that patients with dissociative disorders generally need better recognition and appropriate treatment. For example, he is author of treatment chapters in the most recognized psychiatric text-books, including chapters on DSM-5 dissociative disorders. LOEWENSTEIN is currently leading the work of revising the ISSTD international guidelines for treatment of patients with DIDs. He is affiliated with Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore, USA.
DURING THIS 2-DAYS WORKSHOP YOU WILL LEARN ABOUT dissociative identity disorder (DID) as a posttraumatic stress disorder, understand how the psychological organization of DID interferes with the therapeutic processes and what the underlying causes of stuck therapeutic situations and negative responses to therapy are. The workshop will also give insight to how the personality organization has the key to solution, how one can use transference and counter-transference processes therapeutically, as well as knowledge on appropriate
supportive medication. All introduction to theory will be linked to practical approaches.
