The ICD-11 diagnosis of Complex PTSD (C-PTSD) indicates the start of a new era in the field of complex trauma. The relevance of discussing C-PTSD in relation to other disorders related to complex trauma, such as borderline personality disorder, is at front. Therefore, ESTD is most delighted and privileged to announce a free online webinar for clinicians (members and non-members) on this topic with the excellent expert, dr. Marylene Cloitre.
Following the inclusion of complex PTSD in the ICD-11 diagnostic classification system and moving from a categorical towards a dimensional view on personality disorders, delineation in clinical practice may be difficult. Many clinicians may ask: “what is the difference between C-PTSD and personality disorders? – and, what are the implications for treatment?” Dr. Marylene Cloitre will address these questions in this webinar, in addition to presenting the scientific basis for the development of ICD-11 complex PTSD. She will also present knowledge on dissociative symptoms in C-PTSD Participants will learn about the specificities and overlap of respectively C-PTSD and personality disorders (i.e., Borderline personality disorder) as well as the diagnostic assessment of C-PTSD.
It is the aim of the European Society of Trauma and Dissociation (ESTD) to assist professionals in developing their diagnostic skills by offering a series of webinars with our special guests. This upcoming event will be held on ZOOM. Participation is open and free-of-charge to all mental health professionals, especially doctors, psychologists, psychotherapists and counsellors. Dr. Marylene Cloitre is on staff at the National Center for PTSD Dissemination and Training Division at the Palo Alto VA, California, USA and is also Clinical Professor (Affiliate) in Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University. Her research and clinical work for the past 30 years has focused on the long-term effects of childhood trauma on social and emotional functioning. She was the founding director of the Institute for Trauma and Recovery at the NYU Child Study Center following 9/11 and a member of the advisory board for the 9/11 Memorial Museum. Dr. Cloitre was a member of the World Health Organization (WHO) ICD-11 working group on trauma-spectrum disorders. She is past-president of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies. She is also the 2015 recipient of the Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Practice of Trauma Psychology from Division 56 of the American Psychological Association.
