We are delighted that the third European conference of the European Society of Trauma and Dissociation will be held in Germany – you are cordially invited to join us in Berlin! With the theme of the conference ”There are many walls to take down – on the way to integration” we do not only want to address individual, but also societal aspects of trauma and dissociation. The opening plenary will be given by Dr. Joachim Gauck, who – after German reunification – served as the federal commissioner of the East German Stasi Archives and who continues to make important contributions to the reintegration in Germany. He will speak about working through the past in transformation societies. Furthermore, psychotherapists from Israel, Germany and the USA will share their perspectives on the lasting effects of the Holocaust and World War II in the form of a symposium. In addition, Bethany Brand will speak about the first multi-site, multi-national treatment outcome study of Dissociative Identity Disorder; Michaela Huber will speak to us about state of the art treatment in Complex Trauma, and Marja Rexwinkel will describe treatment interventions addressing attachment problems in severely traumatized families with very young infants.

In inspiring preconference workshops from international high ranked speakers Rick Kluft (USA), Sandra Wieland (CAN) Richard Loewenstein (USA), Andrew Moskowitz (Denmark), Bethany Brand (USA) and Kathy Steele (USA) and Helga Matthess (Germany) you can inform yourself about the state of the art of diagnosis and treatment of dissociative disorders. We are very pleased that Bruce Perry, who inspired us in Belfast with his Keynote speech is coming back offering a three hour in-conference workshop on “An Introduction to the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics”.

We hope that you will also find time to discover Berlin, a wonderful city with a rich cultural heritage. We look forward to seeing YOU in Berlin!

Ursula Gast
(Chair of the scientific program)

Bettina Overkamp
(Chair of organizing committee)

Dear Colleagues,

I am delighted to welcome you to this website. This is the third bi annual European conference that ESTD is organising. After 2 very successful conferences in Amsterdam and Belfast, we very much look forward to our event in Berlin in the spring of 2012.

Delegates have repeatedly praised the atmosphere at these ESTD conferences. Perhaps because of their manageable size, it has always been possible for delegates, new and old, to feel welcome and part of this family of clinicians, researchers and supporters in the field of dissociation.

One of our primary aims at these conferences is to stimulate abstract submissions from new professionals in both the private and public sector. So our programme is enriched by the diversity of presenters from both well known national and international speakers as well as first time presenters. So do consider submitting a paper or workshop.

We are also mindful of our mission statement to provide knowledge and education specifically to those countries in Europe who do not have easy access in this field.

I very much hope that you will be one of the delegates.

Sincerely,

Remy Aquarone
President ESTD
